Reverse Mentoring an Effective Training Tool

Mentoring has long been a part of the business climate. But in recent years, many employers have turned to reverse-mentoring to give more experienced workers easy access to newer information, especially cutting-edge technologies.

Businesses, educational institutions, and medical facilities are all seeing the wisdom of reverse-mentoring. Newer hires often bring with them fresh views and updated technological skills which can be shared with other employees. Without a reverse-mentoring structure in place, this sharing of knowledge, ideas, and techniques may not take place.

Successful mentoring and reverse-mentoring include key elements. Company sanctioned support is imperative, as well as both mentor and mentoree willingness to learn and share information. Clear goals of what knowledge or skills areas will be assessed is also important and provides your business with a clear understanding of how to assess the success of the mentoring partnership.

In instances where the most appropriate mentoring partner works in a different office, e-mentoring through internet capabilities is the solution.
